Liam Hendriks vs Kansas City Royals

Liam Hendriks faced the Kansas City Royals today. He was shaky in his first appearance against the Orioles, giving up 4 runs over 4.2 innings of work. He will be looking to establish himself in the rotation this year, with Scott Richmond being activated from the DL soon the pressure will be on. A weak performance could mean losing his spot.

Hendriks gave up a homerun in the first to Billy Butler on a fastball right down the middle. In the second he loaded the bases but managed to escape, getting Gordon to pop out to Willingham, also striking out Francouer.

In the third Hendriks induced Escobar to groundout to SS, before plonking Butler on the elbow. Moustakas grounded out to 2b in a inning ending double play.

In the forth he gave up a lead off double to Perez, then struck out Hosmer and Francouer, before getting Cain to groundout to SS.

In the fifth he got Getz to ground out to 2b. Then Gordon grounded out to Hendriks before Escobar grounded out to ss.

Overall this was a much better performance from Hendriks compared to his opening start. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. In five innings of work he gave up 4 hits, got 4 strikeouts and gave up a homerun.
